Experiences with ISDN validation models in SDL and proposal for new SDL features

This paper shows experiences encountered during the specification of layer 3 protocols for narrowband and broadband ISDN in SDL-92. It shows a methodology how to structure a specification that it can be reused in derived specifications on structural level as well as on behavioural level. SDL provides adequate support for the composition of large specifications. There are difficulties, however, to extend signals, data and transitions in derived specifications. Details are given why and how additional features should be introduced into SDL.
